Free legal document generators

NDA templates, contract generators, legal document summarizers, and business compliance utilities.

Six document builders that assemble a draft from clause templates inside your browser. Nothing you type — party names, fees, account details, jurisdiction — is transmitted, because the assembly is string work in JavaScript and the export is either a print window or a Blob download. NDA Generator produces a mutual, one-way or employee agreement, with a confidentiality period from six months to indefinite and a governing-law picker covering ten US states, each annotated with what that state is known for, from California's trade-secret protections to Colorado's limits on restrictive covenants. Freelance Contract covers the four things freelance disputes are actually about: scope, money, revisions and intellectual property. It carries starting deliverables for design, development, writing and consulting work, payment schedules including 50/50, milestone-based, monthly retainer and Net 30, a revision cap, and four IP positions ranging from client owns everything to freelancer retains ownership and grants a licence, in eight currencies. Terms of Service builds from eleven toggleable sections — accounts, acceptable use, payments, refunds, intellectual property, a privacy-policy reference, disclaimers, limitation of liability, termination, dispute resolution and governing law — and six business-type templates for SaaS, e-commerce, mobile apps, content platforms, marketplaces and API products, plus four industry presets that switch the right sections on and add HIPAA language for healthcare, COPPA for education and gaming, and GDPR and CCPA clauses across all of them. Bill of Sale handles six asset classes and adapts its fields to each: a vehicle asks for a VIN, real estate for a parcel or tax ID, electronics for a serial or IMEI, and all of them for condition from new-in-box down to as-is for parts, a warranty term and a payment method. Cookie Banner Generator is the outlier — it writes code rather than a document. You define cookie categories with the actual cookie names inside them, choose a bottom bar, top bar, centre modal or corner popup, pick a colour scheme, and download a self-contained cookie-consent.html snippet. Certificate Maker draws a certificate of achievement, completion, appreciation, excellence, participation or training onto a canvas with six border styles and downloads it as PNG. Two of these tools say on their own faces that they are not legal advice. Treat all six that way.

How to choose the right tool

Pick by the relationship you are papering. Before a conversation, NDA Generator — mutual if both sides will share secrets, one-way if only you are disclosing, employee for onboarding. Before work starts, Freelance Contract, and spend your attention on the IP and revisions fields rather than the rate, because those two clauses are where the arguments happen. When ownership of a thing changes hands for money, Bill of Sale, which is the receipt that proves a transfer occurred and on what terms. When you are launching something people sign up to, Terms of Service, chosen with the industry preset that matches you so the sections you are obliged to include are switched on by default. Cookie Banner Generator belongs to the same launch, but it is a front-end component you paste into your site rather than a document you sign — and a banner is only lawful if the categories you declare match the cookies you really set, so check that against your own code. Certificate Maker is the non-legal one in the group and simply makes a printable award. For a privacy policy specifically, the generator for that lives in the privacy hub.

Frequently asked questions

Are documents from these generators legally binding?

A document you both sign can be binding, but the generator cannot tell you whether this one is enforceable in your situation. These are clause templates assembled from your inputs, drafted in general terms and, for the NDA and Terms of Service, with an American legal frame. Enforceability turns on jurisdiction, the parties involved, the subject matter and consumer or employment law that varies enormously between countries. Use the output as a solid starting draft and as a way to work out what you actually want, then have a qualified lawyer in the relevant jurisdiction review it before signature — particularly for anything with real money or employment attached.

Do my contract details get uploaded to a server?

No. Every generator here builds its text by concatenating template strings with the values in the form fields, in JavaScript, in this tab. Exports work the same way: the print route opens a new window containing the formatted document and calls the browser's print dialogue, and the file route creates a Blob and triggers a download. There is no network request at any stage, no account and no stored draft. Reload the page and everything you typed is gone, so download or copy the document before you close it.

The NDA only offers US states for governing law. Can I use it elsewhere?

The dropdown covers ten US states plus an Other option where you can type any jurisdiction, and the governing-law clause will use whatever you enter. But the rest of the agreement is drafted against American norms — the confidentiality carve-outs, the remedies language and the general structure. If your contract is governed by, say, Danish, German or English law, the clauses may be unenforceable, superfluous or simply the wrong shape. In that case use the output as a checklist of what your agreement needs to cover, and have it drafted locally.

Which format do the documents download in?

It varies by tool, deliberately. NDA Generator, Freelance Contract, Bill of Sale and Terms of Service all offer a print view — a clean, serif-set page opened in a new window that you send to a printer or save as PDF from the print dialogue. The first three additionally export a .doc file you can open and redline in Word, Pages or LibreOffice, which is what you want when the other side will edit it. Terms of Service exports HTML instead, since it is usually going onto a web page. Cookie Banner Generator downloads an HTML snippet, and Certificate Maker downloads a PNG rendered from a canvas.

Will the cookie banner make my site GDPR compliant?

It gives you the interface, not the compliance. The generated snippet renders the banner, presents your categories, records the visitor's choice and exposes it to your own code. What it cannot do is stop your scripts from running: compliance means that analytics, advertising and social tags do not load until consent is given, and that is a change in your site, not in the banner. You also need the declared categories and named cookies to match what you genuinely set, a way to withdraw consent, and a privacy policy. The tool itself notes it is not legal advice.

What makes a bill of sale different from a receipt?

A receipt proves payment. A bill of sale records the transfer of ownership: who sold, who bought, precisely what changed hands, for how much, on what date, in what condition, and with what warranty or explicit lack of one. That last part matters most — the as-is and for-parts condition options, paired with a no-warranty term, are what protect a private seller after the buyer drives away. For a vehicle the document also carries the VIN, and for real estate the parcel or tax identifier, because identifying the exact asset is the whole point.
