Convert, compress, edit, and transform images between every common format. JPG, PNG, WEBP, AVIF, HEIC, SVG, and more.

Images are the largest section on ToolChamp: 109 tools, of which 56 are single-pair converters covering every direction between PNG, JPG, WebP, BMP, GIF, ICO, AVIF and TIFF. The other 53 are editors and inspectors — compression, resizing, cropping, rotation, watermarks, borders, collages, meme captions, passport-photo layouts, colour palettes, histograms, EXIF viewing and removal, OCR, PSD flattening, an SVG editor and a stack of filters. Almost all of them work the same way: your browser decodes the picture into a canvas element, the tool edits the pixels there, and the canvas is re-encoded into the format you asked for. PNG, JPEG, WebP and AVIF come out of the browser's own canvas encoder, at quality 0.92 for the lossy ones unless you move a quality slider. BMP, ICO, GIF and TIFF are written byte by byte by encoders that ship inside the page, because no browser will produce them, and that has consequences worth knowing before you convert: BMP output is 24-bit and uncompressed with bottom-up rows, so alpha is discarded and the file grows; ICO output is a single 32 by 32 pixel 32-bit icon rather than a multi-resolution icon set; GIF export maps your colours onto a 216-colour web-safe palette and LZW-compresses one frame, so photographs band visibly and animation is not carried over. iPhone pictures are handled as well — HEIC and HEIF files are decoded by libheif 1.21.2 compiled to WebAssembly before any tool touches them, so HEIC works as an input on the converters, the compressor and the metadata tools. The ceiling for image uploads is 50 MB per file. Two tools deserve a note because they are not plain canvas work. Image to Text runs the Tesseract LSTM engine in a Web Worker across 22 languages plus auto-detect, with preserved-layout, plain-text or structured-JSON output; the language model is fetched from a CDN the first time you pick a language, but your picture never goes with it. Image Translator is the one exception to the no-upload rule in this section: it recognises the text locally, then sends only the recognised characters, capped at 5,000, through a translation proxy and paints the translation back over your image. Everything is free, with no account, no daily quota and no watermark stamped on the result. Batch input is supported wherever it makes sense — the compressor, the pair converters, the EXIF editors and the collage builder all accept several files at once and hand back a ZIP. Four pages joined the section most recently. Background Remover cuts the subject out of a photo without uploading it: the first run downloads a 12.7 MB WebAssembly runtime and the 4.4 MB U-2-Net model from this domain, and every run after that computes the mask on your own CPU and returns a PNG with a real alpha channel at full resolution. Compress Image to 100KB, Compress Image to 50KB and Compress Image to 20KB replace the guesswork of a quality slider with a byte ceiling: each one bisects the encoder quality at full resolution and, when quality alone cannot reach the number without turning the picture into blocks, steps the pixel dimensions down as well, then reports the quality and the size it actually landed on.

How to choose the right tool

Start from what is actually wrong with the file. If the format does not suit its destination, pick the named pair: PNG to JPG for photographs wasting space as PNG, JPG to WebP or PNG to AVIF to cut page weight, HEIC to JPG for iPhone photos a Windows app refuses to open, PNG to ICO for a favicon. If the format is fine and only the weight is wrong, Image Compress is the tool — its slider aims at a share of the original size — while Image Resize changes pixel dimensions, which usually saves more than compression alone. For posts, Social Image Resizer and Social Media Auto Crop fit a picture to platform dimensions without hand-cropping. Before publishing anything shot on a phone, EXIF Viewer shows what the file carries and EXIF Remover strips GPS coordinates, serial numbers and timestamps. For words locked inside a screenshot or scan, use Image to Text. To reuse a colour from a design, Image Color Picker and Color Palette read hex values straight out of the pixels, and Image Diff is what you want when two exports look identical and you need to prove they are not. When an upload form names a limit in kilobytes, use the Compress Image to 100KB, 50KB or 20KB page for that number rather than nudging the general compressor until something fits — 20 KB in particular almost always costs pixel dimensions as well as quality, and the page will tell you what it had to give up. Background Remover is the one to open when the subject has to survive onto a different background: Background Changer only swaps a flat colour behind an already-clean cut-out, and Sticker Maker starts from the alpha channel the remover produces.

Frequently asked questions

Are my images uploaded to a server?

No, with one named exception. Every converter, editor and metadata tool decodes and re-encodes the file inside the browser tab, so the bytes never travel. The exception is Image Translator, which recognises text locally and then sends only that text to a translation proxy — the picture itself stays put. Image to Text also downloads a Tesseract language model from a CDN, but that is a download to you, not an upload of your file.

How large a file can I convert?

The image tools accept files up to 50 MB each. The practical limit below that is your device's memory: a picture is expanded to raw RGBA pixels on the canvas while it is being edited, so a 40-megapixel photo occupies roughly 160 MB of RAM during the operation even though the file on disk is far smaller. Older phones will run out before the 50 MB cap is reached.

Why did transparency disappear when I converted to JPG or BMP?

Neither format can store an alpha channel. JPEG has no transparency at all, and the BMP encoder here writes 24-bit bottom-up rows with no alpha byte. Transparent pixels are composited onto a background colour before encoding, which is why a logo with soft edges picks up a halo. If you need transparency, stay with PNG, WebP or AVIF, all three of which keep the alpha channel intact.

Can I make an animated GIF here?

Use GIF Maker, which assembles multiple frames into an animation with a frame delay you control. The format converters are different: converting a single image to GIF writes one frame only, and converting an animated GIF to another format keeps the first frame. Video to GIF, in the audio and video section, is the right starting point if your source is a clip rather than a set of stills.

Does converting between formats lose quality?

It depends on the destination. PNG, BMP and TIFF are lossless, so pixels survive intact. JPG, WebP and AVIF are lossy and re-encode at quality 0.92 by default, which is visually close but not identical, and repeated round trips compound the damage. GIF is the harshest step here because the encoder reduces your image to 216 fixed colours. Convert from the original file rather than from an already converted copy whenever you can.

Do these tools work on a phone?

Yes. The converters, compressor, croppers and metadata tools run in mobile Safari and Chrome on Android, and HEIC input is decoded the same way it is on a desktop. Large batches are where phones struggle: each file is held in memory while it is processed, so on an older handset convert a few images at a time rather than dropping in thirty at once.
